Nasdanda mountain of Sri Lanka

Nasdanda mountain is one of beautiful mountains of Sri Lanka which is situated at the border of Badulla and Nuwaraeliya districts. This mountain looks like an elephant. Main peak of this mountain is high about 2250m above from sea level. Climbing this mountain is somewhat difficult task. Top of this is very beautiful. We can see all areas of Uwa province. Seventy five years ago the British people prepared a stage to visit all over the area. Now it cannot be seen.

The railway tunnel 18 was made through the mountain. It's very dark. One side of the tunnel has wet climate and other side of the tunnel has dry climate. If you can through the tunnel 18 you can identify what is the difference.

A lot of water ways start in Nasdanda mountain. In the morning large amount of mist covered the whole mountain. In the evening also same. Some days travelers can get wet on the top of mountain with small rain.

Various types of plants, animals, flowers and very beautiful scenarios and endemic varieties can be found in Nasdanda area. Nasdanda mountain is most valuable upper watershed area of Sri Lanka. Theirfore the mountain is resource of all Sri lankans.

30 years ago closed area of Nasdanda mountain was cultivated as Chena. After that cultivating above  5000 Ft from see level at this area was prohibited. Because of that reason people destroy the natural beauty of this area. Nasdanda mountain has lot of hidden waterfalls and resourses. One of water way which start in Nasdanda mountain make beautiful waterfall in Alawathugoda village called Diyawatanalla waterfall.

Nasdanda has two means first meaning is it's like a Norse of man and other meaning is this likes elephant. people identify those two names.
